Canelo Alvarez is a professional boxer who has won multiple championships in the sport. He was born on July 18, 1990 in Mexico City, Mexico. The first time Canelo competed in boxing was in 2007 at the age of 16. He started his boxing career in Mexico and first became a world champion when he won the WBC Youth World Championship at the age of 20. Then he became a two-division world champion when he won the WBC and WBA super middleweight titles in September 2013. Canelo also became an IBF champion in September 2017 by winning the title from Gennady Golovkin.

Canelo’s biggest accomplishment to date was becoming the first Mexican boxer to win a major world title when he defeated GGG for the WBC / Ring Magazine Middleweight World Championship in November 2017. He also became a two-division champion by winning both the WBC and IBF Middleweight World Championships for his second reign as a champ.

Canelo is currently ranked as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and is coming off his first major loss against GGG, but he has shown that there is still plenty left to prove as he has not lost three consecutive fights since 2011.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin 3 fight results, highlights

Now, the fight that has everyone buzzing is the upcoming showdown between reigning middleweight king Canelo Alvarez and WBC and WBA super middleweight champion Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin. The two fighters have a long history of animosity dating back to their amateur days in Mexico, but now it is time for them to settle their differences in the ring.

The two world-class fighters are scheduled to meet on Sept. 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The event will be broadcast live on HBO pay-per-view starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
In the one-sided Alvarez vs. Golovkin fight odds, Canelo is favored at -275 and GGG is a +205 underdog. However, because of GGG’s incredible knockout power, +205 actually isn’t that bad for him considering how dangerous Canelo is when he fights someone his size (like Floyd Mayweather).

This will be the first boxing bout between two Mexican fighters since Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Miguel Cotto from 2013 which was billed as Cotto vs. Chavez Jr 2 however it was not sanctioned by any sanctioning body so no official winner was declared and therefore the fight ended in a draw with neither fighter earning a victory (although several sources including ESPN claim that Mayweather won.
